About the Author and Creator of the Realms of AquilarAquilar's Current Date: A long time ago I went to a birthday party for a friend of mine, Rob, who was turning 11 years old; I was 10 at the time. Naturally I counted on the usual cake and ice cream, party stuff, opening presents, but I was told that we were going to be there for a long time playing this game that my friend liked. I did not know the name of it, or did not remember, and went to this party not knowing what to expect. We ended up at 4 pm that afternoon in his basement with 7 total players and Robs' father who was going to be the "Dungeon Master" for the evening. You guessed it... we ended up playing Advanced Dungeons and Dragons®, 1st Edition Rules. I remember my first character well, rolling him up and everything. He was a 1st level Illusionist with 4 hit points. As luck would have it my character died before the first battle, failing a dexterity check and tripping down a flight of slippery stairs. My character was dealt 5 points of damage and "broke his neck". Of course I was disappointed, but soon after one of the other party members had to leave and I ended up playing his character, a Thief, who had good scores. We played for about five hours and in the end my character dealt the final blow to the "Great Beast" (a Spirit Naga) that was blocking a kings' treasure beyond. It was a lot of fun and a few days later my dad lent me the money to buy my first AD&D® book, Monster Manual 2. I was hooked, line and sinker. My brother and I would play for endless hours on our back porch in the summer along with some friends from the neighborhood. I played it sparingly in my teen years (although it seems dumb now, but it was not 'cool' to play), but after college I met a group of friends (who are still players on occasion and help me play test the game) who enjoyed and played AD&D regularly. We would play until the dawn on some nights when there was nothing else to do and of course, being legally able to drink sometimes the games would get a little goofy. We would sometimes use days off to play marathon games that would stop and break for a few hours and would pick up again later. All of these wonderful experiences, fantastic games and puzzles, riddles, and nefarious creatures is what Aquilar.net is truly about. It is the culmination of all of these experiences, which allowed me to use my imagination and to dream as people should. This site is the imprint of many ideas, put together so I could share them with whoever wishes to read it. The Aquilar World is my vision of a realm draped in mystery and closely tied to the natural elements and in fact nature itself as one cannot survive without the other. Set back in a Dark Ages type of setting, Aquilar is home to fantastic creatures, abominations of the land, vigilant druids, and focused, powerful sorcerors. Ravaged by a race of creatures spawned from the Underworld, and the death of the gods, the world is forever scarred, and many lands and nations are ripe for conquering. Aquilar is also graced with natural beauty and endless, open stretches of breathtaking landscapes. Its people are simple yet wise in their ways and have survived many troubling times, breeding strong, independent adventurers from every race and walk of life. Its history and origins are lost in time and only those that wish to risk the many dangers in this world will ever discover its secrets. This world is presented to the readers as I see it, moreso as I created it. Inside this world you will find a complete role playing campaign within that knows no boundaries, that supplies a new gaming system for use on its own or with the AD&D® rulesets. You will discover the lands of Aquilar, its geography, its history, and some of its unique characters. You will find complete details on society, religion, and the use of magic as it applies to Aquilar. There are many tales of might and magic within the pages and soon the first fantasy novels will be available to give everyone a true sense of the world as I see it. Everything you need to begin a fresh, new campaign is waiting for you within. Feel free to utilize anything you find of value within this site. Print out the rules, stories, maps, or whatever you please to make your campaign better. All I ask is that you do not utlize the materials presented within for your own profit or gain as it is copyrighted material. Thank you and Welcome to the Realms of Aquilar!
